Louise and Kanti - Graylag Cabins, NH wedding

Louise and Kanti's wedding at the Graylag Cabins in Pittsfield, NH. I love, love big city weddings, but yet, undeniably, there is something very charming about the intimate atmosphere of a wedding in the woods. Especially, if there is a bit of class and style involved. Leave it to Louise and Kanti, a British woman and a Canadian man. Sure enough, this was one of the most beautiful weddings I've ever been to. Simple, stylish and beautiful. Congratulations, Louise and Kanti!

By the way, the Graylag Cabins only recently have been made available for weddings. What a great scenic and private spot for an outdoor wedding!

Marrin and Josh - Four Seasons Boston wedding

Marrin and Josh's wedding at the Four Seasons Hotel in Boston. Congratulations, Josh and Marrin! This was just a fantastic day. And it's always nice to see when the bride and groom are enjoying it as much as everyone else. So much joy, laughter and good times!

I love working at Four Seasons. If you're a bride, or a groom, or a family member, or simply attending a wedding there, then the understated luxury and class of this hotel is something worth experiencing. But I only know that the location, if you're a wedding photographer, is beyond anything you could wish for! It helps that it's right near Boston Public Garden, one of the most beautifully landscaped (and well maintained) parks around.

Favorites - 2008 Weddings

It's the last and final installment - a few more of my wedding favorites from 2008 season. Now that I look back at it, it's been quite a year, with so many different and very unique weddings. To all my last year's clients, yet another huge thank you for letting me be a part of your very special day!

And on that note, I am very excited about another wonderful wedding season ahead... The schedule is getting pretty full. If you are one of those undecided brides reading this post, this might be a good time to pick up the phone and make your consultation appointment... 617...818...5369.

The theme of this set of photos below is, very loosely, portraits. As much as I love being an observer to all the excitement and emotions of a wedding day, sometimes a little bit of creative direction doesn't hurt it. I hope you'll agree...

Favorites - Annual Report, Part 1

You'd think wedding photographers have nothing to do in January! But apart from tax season worries, lots of last year's wedding albums still being produced and hectic preparations for another busy season, it's also time to go back and review what I did last year. Here are some favorites of mine, in no particular order. It's kind of like an annual report, if you will, except there are no numbers!

Ok, so may be calling it an "annual report" is not quite appropriate. After all, who would want these days to be associated, even if association is very weak, with banks and big corporations and those gigantic dollar loses in their annual financial reports? So, may be these are just a few of my favorite images that I took in 2008. Nice and simple!

Kim and Nick - Four Seasons Boston wedding

Kim and Nick's wedding at the Four Seasons Hotel Boston. Following a beautiful ceremony at St. Cecilia's Church just a few blocks away, the reception, as this photographer saw it, was in a class of its own. A few "high quality" ingredients helped, of course, like Carolyn Perlow, Suzanne B. Lowell Lighting & Design, or the Night Shift band. But mainly it's the bride and groom, their families and guests that made it an unforgettable night, indeed. Congratulations, Kim and Nick!

To think of it, just a few months ago we were lazily strolling around North End, taking photos and enjoying a warm, summer morning. Here is a link to earlier post. Yet here we are - it's time to work on a wedding album!

Fall is for Portraits!

New England is beautiful in the fall. Here are a few of my recent portrait favorites. My busy wedding season is still wrapping up, and, as a lot of you know, I've been incredibly busy in the past few months with just photographing weddings, never mind making all the wedding albums, meeting with prospective client, worrying about the economy (yeah, me, too!), worrying about Red Sox, worrying about NE Revolution, and of course, making time for engagement portrait sessions!

I looooove meeting my couples and spending time to know them! I don't bring a list of questions to our portrait sessions (like, how long they've known each other, or what they like about each other), no, no. Everything is a lot more low key and quite spontaneous. I care the most about making them feel completely comfortable with me being there, next to them, on one of the most important days of their lives together. Making nice photographs comes second for now. Although, one never happens without the other, indeed.

So, here we are. Nicole and Taylor, photographed around Beacon Hill and Boston Public Garden, to get married in May 2009. Congratulations, Nicole and Taylor!

Thi and Alex - Boston Fairmont Hotel wedding

Thi and Alex's wedding, with tea ceremonies at their parents' houses and an "American" wedding at the Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel. Hold it, it's a very big blog post, but hang on... It was a very long and very memorable day. It was such a joy to photograph it, too!

Being trusted with a task of documenting weddings that combine different cultures, sometimes very distant from where I grew up in Eastern Europe, always feels like a big honor to me. It is a big honor. I always leave feeling very humble, and yet delighted. It's through sharing our differences that we enrich each other, indeed.

This was back in August, but I am sure it's not too late. We can all just agree that Newport, RI is one of the jewels of New England when it comes to romantic charm. And "Romantic" is their middle name! Erin and Bill, no pressure, but I am looking forward to the wedding! Just a few short weeks to go...

Missing In Action, etc.

My big apologies to all our regular readers! I have been keeping this blog so, so out of date... I am MIA myself, indeed. I think I probably took, oh, 7,000+ photos since that last post, hmm, a month ago... And yet nothing is here. It's about time!

Last month, with a very busy summer wedding season ending, several staffing issues popping up, our kids finishing summer camps and starting new schools, Beijing Olympics and political conventions blasting, it all came to me - you can try to work as hard as you want to, trying to meet every deadline you set, but yet life just happens and it's impossible to keep up with it. Sometimes. With a busy summer season switching into a busy fall season, we're finally back on track, though. Rest assured, blog updates are coming, too!

Oh, I did win another Wedding Photojournalists Association award! Not that I have time to celebrate it, he, he, but it's exciting sometimes to have your work selected from hundreds of others. I am very proud, and humble, too. The WPJA contests are open to all of their members, which who knows how many, represent almost every country in the world. Just being a selected member of this association is a very rewarding experience.

Katelyn and Thomas - Boston Harbor Hotel wedding

Katelyn and Thomas' wedding at the Boston Harbor Hotel. Absolutely adorable couple, wonderful company of family of friends and a beautiful mid-summer day. A recipe for great photographs! :-)

How strange to photograph two weddings within 3 weeks from each other at the Boston Harbor Hotel! Looking back at the images, it's another proof that every couple is different and every wedding is always, always different. In fact, with different lighting conditions that day, the fact that I was just recently there didn't really help. It's a big wedding photography myth that it's better to have a photographer that knows the location. What's better is to have a photographer that understands the light and is capable to adopt to changes in light conditions immediately.

Massachusetts: Equality for All

Unprecedented, progressive, or just "keeping-up-with-times" kind of new law - same-sex couples who live outside Massachusetts can now marry in our state. Click on a link for a full article - Massachusetts lets out-of-state gay couples marry from Associated Press.

Yes, no matter where you live, come to Boston and get married! Oh, and don't forget to book a good photographer while at it, he, he. It's no secret, most wedding vendors are very much looking forward to increased business (Repeal of out-of-state same-sex marriage ban seen as a win for business). There are a few exceptions, of course, like wedding gown shops or traditional-style wedding venues. But, as far as we know it, it's a great time to be a wedding photographer in Massachusetts! Cheers to all the married couples to be - same-sex or opposite sex!

Oh, and often overlooked, also signed into law a first-in-the nation measure allowing all married couples to receive Medicaid benefits, even though federal law does not recognize same-sex marriages (Read about it here - Massachusetts: Same-Sex Couples From Other States May Now Marry ). Now dig that, yo, Texas! :-)

Sorry guys, ha, ha, it really happened only once before, I swear! Or, well, one does get carried away a bit with those portrait sessions...

Liz and Bill are married! What a fun day! It's official, Renaissance Boston Waterfront Hotel is one of the top places to get married in this town. Liz and Bill's was a very first wedding held at the hotel since they've opened their doors, and rooms, earlier this year. Bill only had to add "It was a first one for us, too!"
